The hands-on discovery and exploration typical of Maker projects presents different challenges from traditional step-by-step instruction. Five Maker teachers with experience teaching Maker subjects discuss their experiences.

Workshop Weekend

J.D. Zamfirescu worked as a programmer at Google and now helps organize Workshop Weekend. He has taught programming and basic electronics at Worskhop Weekend and to middle- and high-school students at Splash at MIT and Stanford.

Lee Sonko

Lee Sonko is an entrepreneur, educator, machine artist, organizer, hacker, geek and baker. Those attributes often team up in his life to help explore the world. He is a founding member of SWARM, a San Francisco based mechatronic art robot group. He is also a member of the Flaming Lotus Girls and Kinetics Department Head at The Crucible in Oakland. Lee's love affair with good bread goes back as long as he can remember. Making and eating bread is his daily reminder of the simplicity and purity of the experience of creation.

Katie Dektar

Katie enjoys photography, biology, designing websites, sewing, crocheting, and programming. As an engineer, she is interested in exploring the intersection of crafts and engineering, and loves the new dimension that electronics can bring to traditional media.

Anca Mosoiu

Anca Mosoiu is a freelance wordpress developer and runs the Tech Liminal co-working space in Oakland. She has taught PHP programming for Workshop Weekend and has extensive experience with teaching WordPress in other venues.

Michael Shiloh

Education Expert - Arduino

Michael Shiloh is a life long tinkerer and maker who worked as an electrical engineer for companies and artists before discovering a passion for teaching. Michael recently joined the Arduino team, and is responsible for Education and Community Management.
