Sabrina Gschwandtner

- KnitKnit

Sabrina Gschwandtner is a New York City based artist who works with film, video, photography, performance, sewing, crochet and knitting. After studying film with Vlada Petric at Harvard University, and video with VALIE EXPORT at the Sommerakademie fur Bildende Kunst, Sabrina received her BA in art/semiotics from Brown University, and an MFA from Bard College. Her artwork has been exhibited at various international museums and galleries, including the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, and the Fleming Museum, Vermont. In 2002, Sabrina founded KnitKnit, a limited edition arts journal dedicated to the intersection of fine art and handcraft. She has curated and organized numerous exhibitions and events around themes and issues raised by the publication, including: "The Handmade Goes Digital," a screening at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, NY; "the Workmanship of Risk," an art exhibition at the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery, St. Lawrence University, Canton, NY; "Political Textiles," an exhibition and event series at ThreeWalls Gallery, Chicago, IL and "Make Your Own Fun," a screening at Guild and Greyshkul Gallery, New York, NY. Sabrina's writing has appeared in Rowan, Interweave Knits and Cabinet magazines. Her book "KnitKnit: Profiles and Projects from Knitting's New Wave" was published by Stewart, Tabori and Chang in fall 2007.
