Solar Power: Sunrise to Sunset

The Sunrise-to-Sunset Exhibit being prepared for the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum is a prototype for a new exhibit on solar power being developed for the City of Ann Arbor as well as to show on the floor of the Museum. Although still a rather crude prototype, it demonstrates the basic principle of how the angle of the sun during the day affects the power output of stationary solar panels that are aimed South at a specific angle. In addition, the sun's angle with respect to the earth (at high, solar noon) is enormously different in the different seasons; it moves across the sky at a far lower angle in winter than in summer.
