The Eggbot Project

"Eggbot" is a spherical plotter (machine for drawing on round objects like eggs and balls). It works using two stepper motors whose motion is controlled by software. The goal of the Eggbot project is to provide an entry level experience for people to learn the basics of motion control - the foundation of robotics.

Bruce Shapiro

Bruce Shapiro has been experimenting with motion control for twenty years. He creates computer-controlled, kinetic sculptures for science centers throughout the word, and has taught motion control classes in California, Minnesota, and Ireland. This year, he is again teaming up with his son Ben (a Stanford C.S. grad) and Brian Schmalz of Schmalzhaus.com (an embedded systems Engineer from Minneapolis) to take his first motion control device, "Eggbot," to the next level.
